Image Analysis excercise (500 words)- Notes

Following the prospectus task we were set in our first seminar session we then carried out another group discussion/activity in groups of 3-4. Using the handouts we were given we had to discuss the similarities and differences between two Propaganda posters: 'The Uncle Sam Range (1876) Advertising Image by the Schumacher & Ettlinger, New York' and 'Poster by Savile Lumley (1915)'.

'The Uncle Sam Range (1876)'                                                        'Poster by Savile Lumley (1915)'

Collectively as a group we identified the similarities and differences in correlation with the social, political and cultural content, we looked closely at the visual aesthetics including the typography, use of colour, mis en scene and related this to the time/period of society at that particular point. Below are some rough notes which will help me structure my 500 word comparative analysis of the two images.
